As the World Rambles On: August Edition
Written by: Callie, Kenzie and Brenna
Sorry guys this one is going to be a boring section from me. I wrote this all out once but it got deleted so this is the second time around and it probably won’t be as good so apologies in advance! Not much interesting stuff happened this month. But a few highlights are as follows:
I finally went to a museum here in Fort Worth! Jason and I went to the art museum to see the Monet exhibit. It was really great and was fun to explore the city we live in a bit more!
Then one weekend was spent helping mom at an estate sale of hers. This sale was in a giant house and was packed with people almost the whole entire time, it was a good thing she had like 6 people working this one (which I thought was going to be too many people working before I got there). I did manage to sneak off for a bit though to go see Brenna’s classroom and it’s absolutely adorable!
Last fun thing was that Jason’s sister and her family came to visit us! We had a lot of fun eating all the food and hanging out with her precious baby. We wanted to make something for them with Jason’s CNC machine so we made this name puzzle and loved it so much we put them up on Etsy (in case you’re interested)!
Oh, August, you were way too long and way too hot. Mostly, I did more of the same: made cakes at work and took too many photos of Apollo (see below). One thing a little more out of the box was that I worked another estate sale that Mom set up. If y’all don’t go to estate sales, you’re seriously missing out. They’re chaotic and the people are sometimes wild and sometimes you can find treasures! (To be even more convinced to start going to estate sales, read Callie’s post about them here.)
Also, my best friend (y’all know Claire, right?) made me this absolutely adorable stitching of Lake Wanaka, a place we visited in New Zealand on our trip in 2017 where I could not stop staring at the mountains across the lake in the early morning light. Y’all should follow her Insta and Facebook for all her creations.
Something else out of the ordinary for me is that I actually went out on a Saturday night! I don’t know if y’all know this about me, but I’m more of the staying in type. Anyway, Brad, Apollo, and I drove my VW Van, Vinny, out to this pretty neat brewery and met up with people from his work and mine. I don’t like beer and I was anxious leading up to it, but I really enjoyed myself! Other people enjoyed petting Apollo and we just relaxed, munched on Goldfish, and chatted in this nice, chill setting. If you haven’t gone yet, visit B52 Brewery. They have lawn games and a nice atmosphere and now that the weather should be cooling off soon (fingers crossed), it’s a nice place to hang!
Last crazy thing to happen in August was that Brad had to go to the hospital! That was super scary and I felt so bad I couldn’t help him feel better, but he is all better now!
I’m super excited for cooler temperatures and all things fall-related. I always feel refreshed and energized in the fall and I’m hoping that doesn’t change for this year and everyone is super productive and happy and shares all around good vibes.
In true Brenna fashion, I’m the last one finishing this. Last one, best one or something? August came and went in a literal blink. I started a family of 17 first graders and we adopted a “Drama Llama”. We have very important jobs that include, passing out papers, telling the Drama Llama important info, paying attention to who’s in the bathroom and we NEVER run with scissors in the classroom (I consider that a job because sometimes we get very excited about keeping Mrs. Taylor’s class clean that we forget to put our scissors down while we storm the trashcan)… We learned the hard way that when you give yourself a haircut, you lose any and all scissor privileges. Apparently, Mrs. Taylor’s class isn’t beauty school. Live and learn people.
I really love my job. I mean truly. JT mentioned the other night that he knows I love it because I haven’t complained once, unlike before. It’s hard work though and I have never been so tired in my entire life but it is so worth it when my sweet kiddos hug me at the end of every day and LOSE their marbles over a congratulatory skittle.
When I wasn’t at the school, OTF, or behind the stove whipping up a home cooked meal for JT, I was behind this computer gearing up for a Junior League Campaign I helped put together. This year is our 30th year as a league, so for the month of September we are doing a sort of “throw back” every single day with pictures from over the years. It has been so fun going back and rifling through pictures to post because it neat to see our growth as a league over the years. I truly love the position I hold this year and am grateful for the opportunity to serve.
Aside from all that, I 100% finished the apartment. So in the next few weeks, I’ll be posting the long awaited Apartment Reveal. I cleaned this place like a mad man, rearranged, threw away a lot of crap and sat back super content with myself for the first time in a long time. I love decorating and could do it all day for someone else but when it comes to my own home, it is all I can do to make up my mind.
Earlier this month, I went on a date with my friend Kelli to Cupcakes & Bubbles in Creekside and OH MY GOODNESS. We had such a blast. Kelli and I share a love for bubbles and that place was the perfect chance to hone in on a champagne I really love. Of course its Veuve Clicquot and I’m forever spoiled by it.
On Saturday, we went to Leona General Store to celebrate round one of my birthday feasts. Holy crap y’all. If you haven’t been to Leona you are seriously missing out. They served up the best steak I’ve ever had in my life and trust me I’ve been to plenty of steakhouses to feel qualified to say that. Mom, her boyfriend Phil, JT, The Rankins and Brad all came along for this scrumptious feast and I am so happy they were there to celebrate the funeral of my mid twenties. Getting older is weird man. Stuff really starts to get real. Like planning out your life a little more and all that jazz. At the end of the day, I’m just grateful to be here where I’m at right now surrounded by my people. Even those who are far away and continue to check in. I love you a hell of a lot.
Well that’s is for me this month y’all! Thanks for hanging on with us as we were trying to recover from a long weekend of being lazy!
