As the World Rambles On: September Edition
Written by: Callie, Kenzie and Brenna
Does anyone else feel like all they do is work, make dinner, fold laundry/do dishes and sleep? Like your life has nothing interesting, exciting or fun going on? No, just me? Okay, cool. Cool cool cool cool.
September was basically boring as hell. Also hot as hell. I went back to Conroe a few times and that’s always fun (but the 3 hours sitting on the highway during a wreak to get there was absolutely not). And Jason and I made it out to the ranch for a weekend to celebrate his Dad’s birthday so that was fun too. But other than the weekend getaways things are pretty routine.
Which I guess isn’t a bad thing. It’s just a thing. I don’t know, I feel like I need a vacation I guess. Need to go somewhere new. Jason and I keep talking about going somewhere but then never decide on a date or where to go. So seriously, if you have ANY suggestions send them our way.
Kenzie mentioned that our grandma is moving out of her freaking amazing Victorian house and she’s obviously taking it WAY better than I am. Mom put up pictures on FB of the house to get people interested in it and she’s gone mini viral (2.4K shares last time I checked. If only our blog could do that well!). One day last week I was sitting on the couch looking through all the pictures and reading all the comments about how amazing the house is bawling my eyes out. I so do not want to sell this house. But I also can’t afford to buy it so I guess I’m just going to have to be an adult and get over it. But it’s seriously so sad.
Speaking of being an adult…we’re homeowners which means that when random big cracks show up in your house you have to deal with it instead of calling a landlord to fix it. So Jason and I are having to figure out first who you even call to come and see if the cracks are a big deal? Answer: an inspector and yes, they’re a big (and expensive) deal. Then if insurance will cover it? Probably not but I’m sure as hell going to call and double check anyway (why would insurance not cover foundation issues?? That’s like what the whole house is built on, they should cover it!). Then fix the issue. So yeah, that’s a thing. Adulting is dumb. Also there’s a slow leak in my tire and I freak out about them always being filled now. I just need to pull the trigger and buy new tires but haven’t yet.
I’m extremely looking forward to the holidays. Thanksgiving is my favorite and I’m already looking forward to having a few days off work and pigging out. Then it’s Christmas time! It’s really crazy to me that it’s already October and time to start thinking about the holidays and soon the new year. Like that’s crazy. I haven’t accomplished half the things I wanted to this year. Guess I need to get busy.
You all know that I am the worst at taking pictures for this blog. I scrolled through my phone and there wasn’t a whole lot to choose from but Kenzie and Brenna put up pictures so I wanted to too. It’s a whole lot of random stuff so be prepared.
I always expect September to be much cooler than it actually is. That’s always disappointing. This month was kind of rough for me if I’m being honest. I’ve learned a lot of lessons about myself - what’s important to me, what isn’t (or shouldn’t be), how to speak up about things that matter to me. I’m a constant work in progress, but September really showed me what I can do or say if I focus on my priorities which are relationships with friends, family, and my boyfriend, and to express myself creatively, stop comparing, and really appreciate everything. I know this all sounds very life coach-y to me which I’m realizing is okay sometimes. Self love and all that.
Other than internal changes, I rearranged my room to make space for a king-sized bed which meant a new gallery wall was in order. Also, I’m reading a really good book To Shake the Sleeping Self by Jedidiah Jenkins that is quite inspiring and introspective and I would definitely recommend. My grandma is also moving from her huge 1800’s Victorian house in Palestine, TX to be closer to us, which I am quite sad about. It’s such a wonderful old house full of memories, beauty, and lots of love and I hope the next owner cherish it as much as my grandma and my family have over these past twenty something years.
I’m so thrilled for October! If September couldn’t be cool, maybe October will pull through. Give me all the falling leaves, pumpkins, and spooky stuff!
Okay look, I’m all for fall being here already but can we just slow things down just a tad?! I’m going to blink again and it’ll be Thanksgiving (which I wouldn’t be mad about). We stayed pretty busy in September. I turned 27 and in true Brenna fashion I probably ate 27 pounds worth of food to commemorate the ending of my mid-twenties. #noragrets #okaymaybejustone
I stayed consistent with my OTF workouts, cooking yummy-ness for JT and I finally finished decorating the apartment. You can see all of our humble abode here if you missed it! Oh and I chopped off my hair because the wedding is over and I have no other reason to keep it long.
I met up with Holly and Jaclyn in San Marcos to celebrate the Strutter’s 60th anniversary and boy did we have a blast. I missed seeing old teammates and the cheap drink prices the square has to offer. It was HOT but so worth it. I miss San Marcos every single day and hope to one day retire in the Hill Country somewhere near there. There is nothing like it.
I’m learning more and more every day just how rewarding teaching can be and how important it is to remember the small moments when you feel like your to-do list is drowning you. Sure I miss having hour long lunches, a quiet office and a car allowance but NOTHING beats 18 kids who are so excited to see you every. Single. day. Yes, 18 kids! I got a new student last week. This friend is peach who moved here from California. I could write a very small book so far just quoting things I have heard in the first-grade hallway. On Friday, someone told me they needed to “take a two” instead of asking to use the restroom. Clearly, it was urgent.
This past weekend, JT and I went to Fort Worth to celebrate Holly’s brother’s 21st birthday. The Nichols celebrate birthdays BIG and we love them like family so it only made sense to hightail it north for a backyard shindig! We went axe-throwing Saturday and partied all into the evening after refueling at Velvet Taco. Of course, we took no pictures but I can assure you, we had a blast.
I’m looking forward to October and hopefully cooler weather because this heat is about to do me in. Fall just makes me feel better too and I’m not going to lie, parts of September were really hard for me so maybe I’m just eager for a fresh month full of possibilities? Plus, I’m sick of staring at my sweaters every morning wishing it was cooler! Also because it’s easier to hide my unhealthy obsession with candy pumpkins. Judge me, I don’t care. They are so good.
