As the World Rambles On: April Edition

As the World Rambles On: April Edition

Written by: Callie, Brenna, and Kenzie

Another strange month for everyone! Read all about it.

Callie

Y’all. I think I’m dead. April came and went in a blur. The last two weeks we have been absolutely slammed at work. I guess with people getting their stimulus check in and not being able to visit their moms for Mother’s Day they all decided that buying them a personalized cup from Everything Decorated was the way to go. There were 500 orders just from over the weekend (more than even at Christmas our busiest time). And we’re low on so many products because no one is shipping anything that I have to email people which takes time and pushes everything back. It’s been annoying and incredibly stressful. On top of the stress of the virus issues and other things.

Okay. Complaining over. Other than that it was another month stuck at home. Going to the park was probably the most exciting thing I did. Well that and trying to make my own business/Etsy grow. It’s been actually pretty decent lately. We have some cute things for Mother’s Day that people have been buying which has been really fun to make and send those off.

My random phone photos are even lamer this month than normal. Sorry guys.

Brenna

I think April might have been my most productive month so far. I did a lot of little projects around the apartment which included, working on my online certification stuff (yes, still doing that), stripping my workout clothes of all the nastiness my washer isn’t getting, recovered our patio cushions, sewed masks, cleaned, repotted plants, set up propagation station and of course baked more than ever!

In addition to all the little projects, I got a bike and have a whole new appreciation for the outdoors. I’ve never really been an outdoorsy person (like someone who just constantly wants to be outside) but during this time that has all changed. I managed to walk, run, and bike a combined 151.72 miles this month and I’m not stopping yet! My goal for May is 200 miles. So we will see! Sidenote: I had to buy all new socks because socks without a little lip in the back were MURDERING my ankles. The blisters were no joke.

I continued to work the food distribution line on Thursdays at the high school and will do that until school is officially over. It’s a long day but sometimes I get to see some of my kiddos and that makes it worth it! I’m headed back to the school, mid May, to pack up my room for the summer! Mom is coming to help, thank God!

The biggest thing I’ve learned this month is that it’s okay to slow down and to not be in a rush to do everything. So for all of y’all that have been like, “Omggg Brenna, how are you ever going to handle not having one million things to do?!” (read that in the most whiney ass voice possible because it’s so annoying)… GUESS WHAT?! I freaking did it.

Kenzie

Whelp, happy May! Five months into this absolutely wild new year and again, I spent most of this month in the house - or the backyard. I’m really not complaining, but at the same time, I’m actually a little happy to have returned to work on Monday!

In April, I tried to focus on creating content for the R&R Instagram (if you don’t follow us, please do!), did quite a bit of baking and caring for plants, and some more crafts. It was a pretty chill month and I really started to appreciate the slow living. I definitely felt more relaxed, focused, and pretty chill. I am glad to be heading back to work, but hope to retain some of the things I’ve learned over all this time off: be grateful for the little things, slow the heck down every now and then, appreciate the people, pets, and things around you. How hippie of me, right?

It wasn’t all just chilling in April, though, Brad and I worked a lot on the coffee cart and are now closer than ever to opening! He finished the plumbing - the trickiest part so far - so all the sinks, pumps, heater, and pitcher rinser are in full working order! We also bought a generator and on the last day of April, got our LLC and DBA! This means we’re good to go for opening a business bank account and then order the espresso machine, grinder, and all the nitty gritty. It’s exciting and scary but I’m ready to try something new and it’s so great getting to do it with Brad. Also, feel free to follow along on the Galavants journey here!

So not much to say really for April except that I feel like I’ve been pretty productive and I feel fairly zen and I am ready to keep on keeping on in this weird year. As always, stay safe and thank you for reading!
